GFS is looking for a skilled leader, mentor and communicator with proven coaching experience to help continue to build on a strong tradition. High-level playing experience is preferred (college or beyond). Candidates should be knowledgeable about the most current tactical and technical training methods that apply to Field Hockey. It is preferred that applicants illustrate a strong commitment to professional / career development. Most importantly we look to the head coach to engage with athletes in a meaningful and intentional way and demonstrate the ability to coach in a positive manner and maintain a competitive team while adhering to the values of the school, and the Friends Schools League.
The head coach is responsible for leading the overall field hockey program (grades 6-12). We will look to the head coach to work collaboratively with other coaches and teams within the program to establish consistent philosophies and teaching methods. S/he will be expected to mentor fellow coaches in their coaching development. We also expect the Head Varsity Coach to conduct camps, clinics and individual training throughout the year.
This is a part-time position from August-November, each weekday afternoon and some Saturdays. Practice is 3:45– 5:45 p.m., plus games. Daily availability at these times is essential.
Candidates with the aptitude and /or qualifications for classroom teaching, specifically PE or assistant teaching, are especially encouraged to apply.
